Luka Koper has been very committed to protecting the environment for years; in fact, already in 2000 it adopted the system for environmental management certified with the ISO 14001 standard for all port activities, updated in May 2006. In December 2009 Luka Koper adopted the EMAS scheme, which represents the most advanced system for the environmental sector. Luka Koper was also a partner of the SAFEPORT project, co-financed by the 2007-2013 Cross-border Cooperation Program Italy-Slovenia, which envisaged the adoption of cross-border guidelines to reduce port emissions and the risks of pollution deriving from the transport of substances by sea dangerous.
