CORILA is an association of the Ca' Foscari and IUAV universities of Venice, the National Research Council and the National Institute of Geophysical and Experimental Oceanography, supervised by the Ministry of Education, University and Research. It primarily takes care of the coordination of scientific research useful for the safeguard of Venice, also managing the Country funds dedicated to it, and taking care of the transfer of the results to the public administrations. CORILA's research activities in the environmental field mainly concern lagoons, transition environments and the sea, the reduction of risks, sustainable development. Since 2004, CORILA has been monitoring the environmental effects of construction sites for the defense work in Venice (MOSE), under construction, on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. For the Veneto region, since 2011, CORILA has been monitoring the lagoon in accordance with dir. 2000/60 EC. Since 2004 he has participated, also with leading functions, in numerous European projects, with particular regard to coastal management and related problems. Recently, he acquired skills in Maritime Spatial Planning, and his director was the coordinator of the pilot project funded by DG MARE ADRIPLAN, completed in 2015: in this sector he is called by the European commission as an expert in various conferences and seminars. It participates in national and European research and innovation networks regarding the sea and the Blue Economy. In October 2015, in collaboration with the EC and MIUR, it organized the High Level Conference on the BLUEMED initiative and previously several international scientific conferences on the themes of the sea. It collaborates with some United Nations agencies, in particular UNESCO and UNISDR.
