Vision and objectives
The aim of the project is to improve environmental protection by developing innovative green technologies (BTI) pilot for effective cross-border management of waste water and waste from cleaning biological fouling on the hull of ships.
A cross-border approach is essential to address common environmental challenges because natural resources, such as the sea, have no boundaries and a single Country solution cannot lead to the desired improvements in environmental protection. The crucial step with which the project will reduce the risks of marine pollution from hazardous waste, deriving from the formation of biological incrustations on the hull of ships (IBSN), is the preparation of guidelines and joint cross-border strategies that will integrate the law on the use of technologies in the cleaning of IBSN and in the sector of water and waste management due to such cleaning. Cross-border cooperation allows the exchange of knowledge and best practices between the project partners, guaranteeing their multidisciplinary and cross-border aspect, important for creating and stimulating the use of the BTI that will be developed in the project. Using green technologies, cross-border cooperation will influence the growth of the area's competitiveness, for superior environmental quality.
GreenHull will also offer benefits to the beneficiaries of the project, or target group, because it will acquire new knowledge, skills and practices in different sectors (environmental protection, BTI): the pilot BTI will offer new opportunities for businesses, more economically effective way for cleaning the IBSN, cross-border guidelines and strategies that will help environmental policy actors and technology development; project contents will be included in study programs, etc.
